One of the authentic Hadiths is narrated by Hazrat Abu Hurairah R.A. in Sunan Ibn Majah 773,

The Messenger of Allah PBUH said: "When anyone of enters the mosque, let him send peace upon the Prophet, then let him say: 'Allahumma Aftahli Abwaba Rahmatik اٴَللّٰهُمَّ افْتَحْ لِيْ أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ.

There is another dua the Holy Prophet used to say while entering the mosque. Hazrat Abdullah ibn Amr R.A reports that when the Prophet PBUH, entered the mosque, he would say;

Etiquettes Of Masjid

Hazrat Abu Huraira R.A reports that the Messenger of Allah PBUH said;

“The most beloved of places to Allah are the mosques, and the most hated of places to Allah are the markets.” (Sahih Muslim 671)

According to this Hadith, Mosques are the most sacred places on the earth. Therefore, it is crucial to maintain proper manners and etiquette to uphold the respect and sanctity of the mosque. There are some important etiquettes that should be observed by worshippers. 

• Perform wudhu (Ablution)
• Dress modestly 
• Remove your shoes
• Read dua when entering masjid
• Step in with right foot
• Offer two Rakat Tahiyyatul Masjid prayer
• Keep silence
• Don’t talk about worldly things

Importance of Dua For Entering Mosque

إِنَّمَا الأَعْمَالُ بِالنِّيَّةِ، وَإِنَّمَا لاِمْرِئٍ مَا نَوَى

The (reward of) deeds, depends upon the intentions and every person will get the reward according to what he has intended” (Sahih al-Bukhari 6689)

Entering the mosque dua purifies one’s intentions and enhances focus on the worship of Allah by negating worldly distractions and negative thoughts and mindset.
