"And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], 'uff,' and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word." (Surah Al-Isra (17:23)).

Dua for Parents in Quran and Sunnah

Dua for parents in Quran:

رَّبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَلِوَالِدَيَّ وَلِمَن دَخَلَ بَيْتِيَ مُؤْمِنًا وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَٰتِ

28 سورة نوح - آیت

"My Lord, forgive me and my parents and the believers the Day the account is established."     Surah Ibrahim (14:41)

Rabbighfir lī wa li-wālidayya wa liman dakhala baytiya mu'minan wa lil-mu'minīna wal-mu'mināt.

"My Lord, forgive me and my parents and whoever enters my house as a believer and the believing men and the believing women."

Hadith having dua for parents islam

There are many Islamic prayers for parents in hadiths. It is necessary to respect and recognize the family relationships in Islam. The importance of making forgiveness dua is expressed in the following hadith:

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: "إِذَا مَاتَ الْإِنسَانُ انْقَطَعَ عَمَلُهُ إِلَّا مِنْ ثَلَاثٍ: صَدَقَةٍ جَارِيَةٍ، أَوْ عِلْمٍ يُنْتَفَعُ بِهِ، أَوْ وَلَدٍ صَالِحٍ يَدْعُو لَهُ

تخریج الحدیث: «صحیح مسلم/الوصایا 3 (1631)، سنن ابی داود/ الوصایا 14 (2880)، سنن النسائی/الوصایا 8 (3681)، (تحفة الأشراف: 13975)، و مسند احمد (2/316، 350، 372)، وسنن الدارمی/المقدمة 46 (578) (صحیح)»."

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: "When the human being dies, his deeds end except for three: ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge, or a righteous child who prays for him."

(Sahih Muslim, Book 13, Hadith 1631)

Most notable dua and hadith for the forgiveness of parents is given below. It is narrated by Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in Sahih Muslim. Here is the Dua for Departed Parents in hadith::

رَّبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَلِوَالِدَيَّ وَلِمَن دَخَلَ بَيْتِيَ مُؤْمِنًا وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ وَلَا تَزِدِ الظَّالِمِينَ إِلَّا تَبَارً۔اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَلِوَالِدَيَّ وَلِمَنْ دَخَلَ بَيْتِيَ مُؤْمِنًا وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ وَلَا تَزِدِ الظَّالِمِينَ إِلَّا تَبَارًا

[ نوح: 28]

"O Allah, forgive me and my parents and whoever enters my house as a believer and all the believing men and believing women, and do not increase the wrongdoers except in destruction."

"O Allah, heal my parents and prolong their lives in Your obedience, and make them among those whose ranks are elevated in the Gardens of Bliss.

Another important and powerful dua for parents' health and long life of parents is given by Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi. He is a renowned scholar of Islam. Here is the text of this dua gathered from his sermons:

"اللّهُمَّ احْفَظْ لِي وَالِدَيَّ وَارْزُقْهُمَا الصِّحَّةَ وَالْعَافِيَةَ وَأَطِلْ أَعْمَارَهُمَا فِي حَيَاتِ مَرْضِيَّةٍ"

"O Allah, protect my parents for me, and grant them health and well-being, and prolong their lives in a pleasing life." (Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi)

Islamic dua for forgiveness
