Hazrat Ibn Umar (R.A) reported that whenever Allah's Messenger (SAW) mounted his camel while setting out on a journey, He glorified Allah (uttered Allah-o-Akbar) thrice, and then said:
سُبْحٰنَ الَّذِیْ سَخَّرَ لَنَا هٰذَا وَ مَا كُنَّا لَهٗ مُقْرِنِیْنَ وَ اِنَّاۤ اِلٰى رَبِّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُوْنَ
“Hallowed is He Who subdued for us this (ride) and we were not ourselves powerful enough to use It as a ride, and we are going to return to our Lord” ( Sahih Muslim 1342)
Dua For A Safe Journey
Journeys are instilled with uncertainties. To avoid any mishappening, read this dua for a safe journey. Hazrat Abu Hurairah R.A narrates that when the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) proceeded on a journey, He would say:
اٴَللّٰهُمَّ أَنْتَ الصَّاحِبُ فِي السَّفَرِ وَالْخَلِيفَةُ فِي الأَهْلِ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ وَعْثَاءِ السَّفَرِ وَكَآبَةِ الْمُنْقَلَبِ وَسُوءِ الْمَنْظَرِ فِي الأَهْلِ وَالْمَالِ اللَّهُمَّ اطْوِ لَنَا الأَرْضَ وَهَوِّنْ عَلَيْنَا السَّفَرَ
“ O Allah, Thou art the Companion in the journey, and the One Who looks after the family; O Allah, I seek refuge in Thee from the difficulty of traveling, finding harm when I return, and unhappiness in what I see coming to my family and property. O Allah, make the length of his journey short for us, and the journey easy for us” (Sunan Abi Dawud 2598)
Dua For Traveling On Plane
Ibn Umar R.A reports that whenever the Messenger (SAW) mounted his camel while setting out on a journey, he glorified Allah (uttered Allah-o-Akbar) thrice, and then said the dua below.
It is apparent that the means of traveling at the time of the Holy Prophet SAW were different and now these means are reposited by cars, planes, and trains. So, this prayer can be read as dua for traveling on plane and dua for travelling in car.
اٴَللهُ اٴَكبَر، اٴَللهُ اٴَكبَر، اٴَللهُ اٴَكبَر، سُبْحانَ الَّذي سَخَّرَ لَنا هذا وَما كُنّا لَهُ مُقْـرِنين، وَإِنّا إِلى رَبِّنا لَمُنْقَلِبون، اٴَللّٰهُمَّ إِنّا نَسْأَلُكَ في سَفَرِنا هذا البِرَّ وَالتَّقْوى، وَمِنَ الْعَمَلِ ما تَرْضى، اللّهُمَّ هَوِّنْ عَلَينا سَفَرَنا هذا وَاطْوِ عَنّا بُعْدَه، ااٴَللّٰهُمَّ أَنْتَ الصّاحِبُ في السَّفَر، وَالْخَليفَةُ في الأهلِ
“Allah is the Most Great. Allah is the Most Great. Allah is the Most Great. Glory is to Him Who has provided this for us though we could never have had it by our efforts. Surely, unto our Lord we are returning. O Allah, we ask You on this our journey for goodness and piety, and for works that are pleasing to You. O Allah, lighten this journey for us and make its distance easy for us. O Allah, You are our Companion on the road and the One in Whose care we leave our family” (Sahih Muslim 1342)
Dua When Leaving The Home
Another dua for travel is narrated by Hazrat Anas ibn Malik (R.A) in (Sunan Abi Dawud 5095). The Prophet (PBUH) said that when a man goes out of his house and says:
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ لاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّهِ ""
“In the name of Allah, I trust in Allah; there is no might and no power but in Allah"
The following will be said to him at that time: "You are guided, defended and protected." The devils will go far from him and another devil will say: How can you deal with a man who has been guided, defended, and protected?
Dua For Starting The Journey
بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ مَجْرٖؔىهَا وَ مُرْسٰىهَاؕ-اِنَّ رَبِّیْ لَغَفُوْرٌ رَّحِیْمٌ
“In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, and there is no might nor power except with Allah.” (11: 41)

أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ

Journey Dua When Arriving In Destination
اٴَللّٰهُمَّ رَبَّ السَّمَوَاتِ السَّبْعِ وَمَا أَظْلَلْنَ ، وَرَبَّ الأَرَضِينِ السَّبْعِ وَمَا أَقْلَلْنَ ، وَرَبَّ الشَّيَاطِينِ وَمَا أَضْلَلْنَ ، وَرَبَّ الرِّيَاحِ وَمَا ذَرَيْنَ ، فَإِنَّا نَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَ هَذِهِ الْقَرْيَةِ وَخَيْرَ أَهْلِهَا ، وَنَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهَا وَشَرِّ أَهْلِهَا وَشَرِّ مَا فِيهَا
“O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and all they overshadow, Lord of the seven worlds and all they uphold, Lord of the devils and all they lead astray, Lord of the winds and all they scatter. I ask You for the goodness of this town, and for the goodness of its people, and for the goodness it contains. I seek refuge in You from its evil, from the evil of its people, and from the evil it contains”
Dua For Returning From Travel
آيِبُونَ تَائِبُونَ عَابِدُونَ لِرَبِّنَا حَامِدُونَ
We are returning, repentant, worshipping our Lord. and praising Him. ( Sahih Muslim 1342)
