How to Perform Salatul Tasbeeh
The Hadith on Salatul Tasbih by Ibn Majah clarifies the way of praying this salah:
"Salaat al-Tasbih" was taught by Rasulullah sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam to his uncle Hazrat Abbas (RA) as a gift. Its virtue is said to be that by reciting it, all sins (small and big) are forgiven.
It is narrated on the authority of Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (RA) that the Holy Prophet (PBUH) said to Hazrat Abbas bin Abdul Muttalib (RA): O my uncle Abbas! Shall I not tell you one gift, one reward and one goodness, i.e. ten traits that if you follow them, Allah Almighty will make all your sins before and after, new and old, knowingly and unknowingly, small and big, hidden. And forgive everyone. Those ten qualities (things) are that you pray four rak'ats, recite Surah Fatiha and one Surah in each rak'at. When you have finished reciting the first rak'ah, recite this tasbeeh fifteen times while standing (Subhan Allah wa al-hamdu Allah wa la ilaha illa Allah wa Allahu Akbar) then bow down, after saying (subhan Rabi al-Azeem) ten times in the bow itself. Read the hymn. Then raise your head from ruku and (after saying the words of the nation) recite the tasbih ten times. After that do Sajdah (after saying Subhaan Rabbi Al-Ala in Sajdah) recite this Tasbeeh ten times again. Then get up from prostration and recite this tasbih ten times. Go to the second Sajdah (after saying Subhan Rabi Al-Ala) and recite Tasbeeh ten times. Then get up from Sajdah and recite Tasbeeh ten times. In this way, the total number of tasbihats in one rakat became seventy-five (75). Repeat this process in all four rakats.
O my uncle! If you can read Salaat al-Tasbih once every day, then read it. If you can't read it daily, then read it once every Friday. If you cannot read even in a week, then read it once in every month. If you cannot read it even in a month, then read it once in every year. If you can't read it even once a year, then read it once in your whole life.
