Context Of Revelation Of Surah Duha

Surah Duha is a Makki chapter revealed during a challenging time of the Prophet’s PBUH mission. It is mentioned in the traditions that revelations to the Holy Prophet (PBUH) had remained suspended for some period of time. The pausing time was so long that the opponents and disbelievers (Mushrikeen e Makkah) started jeering and mocking the Holy Prophet by saying that your Lord has bid you farewell. One of the derogatory statements was of the wife of Abu Lahab who was the aunt of the Prophet SAW, who said that It appears your satan has abandoned you. All these made the Holy Prophet PBUH sorrowful, anxious, and distressed. 

The taunting of the disbelievers ignited the thought in the mind of the Holy Prophet PBUH that  maybe He did something unpleasant which halted the revelation.

This was the state when Surah Duha was revealed to console the Prophet SAW. To mockery and ridiculous behavior of the opponents Allah responded by sending down Surah al Duha and reassured Muhammad PBUH that He has neither forsaken you, nor He is displeased with you.
