Major Themes in Surah Al-A'raf

Invitation to Divine Message

The core of the 7th chapter of the Quran is the invitation to the divine message revealed to the Holy Prophet (SAW). It is a warning for disbelievers and guidance for believers.

Monotheism and Obedience to Allah

The Araf Surah emphasizes the Oneness of Allah and condemns polytheism and disobedience. It calls humanity to worship Allah alone and follow His guidance as revealed through the prophets.

Stories of the Past Nation

Al-Araf Surah recounts the stories of several Prophets and the fate of their people.

Prophet Adam (A.S)

Surat al-Araf highlights the creation of Hazrat Adam A.S. When Allah created Hazrat Adam A.S., He ordered the angels to bow in front of Adam A.S. Everyone did, but Satan (Iblees) refused. Iblees argues that he has been created with fire and Adam with soil. Allah asked him to get down from there.

The chapter also brings the test of Adam A.S. in Paradise, and his expulsion due to Satan’s deception to the limelight.

Prophet Nuh (Noah)

Surah Al-A`raf mentions Prophet Nuh (Noah) and his story in verses 59-63. The surah relays Nuh's message to his people to worship Allah alone and his rejection by the people, who later face divine punishment.

Prophet Hud (A.S)

Sourat al Araf verses 65-71 mentions that Hazrat  Hud (A.S) was sent to the people of 'Ad, a powerful and mighty nation. He called them to worship Allah alone and to fear Him, urging them to abandon their idols and follow the righteous path. For their disbelief and rejection of Hud (A.S) and the divine message, Allah sent a severe punishment upon the 'Ad,

Prophet Salih (A.S)

Surah Al Araaf 73-79 mentions the story of Prophet Salih (A.S) and the people of Thamud, who were known for their stubbornness and rejection of monotheism. Hazrat Saleh A.S called them toward monotheism, and Allah showed a miracle in the form of she she-camel. But they didn’t accept the message. As a consequence, Allah sent a punishment upon them, likely an earthquake, resulting in their destruction.

Prophet Shu’ayb (A.S)

Verses 85-93 of chapter 7 of the Quran highlight the story of Hazrat Shoaib A.S. and the people of Madyan. The people of Madyan were known for dishonesty and idolatry, and Hazrat Shuaib A.S. was sent to guide them towards righteousness. When they refused the message of Allah, they were destroyed with severe torment.

These stories serve as moral and spiritual lessons for believers, warning against arrogance and rejecting divine guidance.

Creation of Earth and Heaven

In the Quran 7:54, Allah mentions the creation of the heaven and earth in six days. Allah says that He created them in six days and established Himself on the throne.

“Indeed, your Lord is Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth in six Days, then established Himself on the Throne.”
