Context Of Revelation of Surat An Naba

Surat An Naba was revealed to the Holy Prophet SAW during life in Makkah. The Makkan disbelievers used to make arguments on hearing about the life hereafter and the Day of Judgment. They mocked and ridiculed and some used to ask the believers about the Qiyamah not for knowledge and acceptance but just to jeer the teachings of the Holy Prophet SAW. With  proclaiming the inevitability of the Day of Resurrection, Allah also reiterates His blessing in Sura Naba  such as the creation of earth, mountain, day and night, skies, and sun. All these are mentioned to draw the attention of disbelievers to the miraculous creation of the Lord.

The Great Tidings

The first part of the surah 78 discussed the Al Naba which means the tidings and it refers to the news of occurrence of the Day of Judgment. When the disbelievers of the Makkah came to know about the news of Qiyamah, they started arguing about it and even ridiculed and jeered. They started asking if it would be possible to resurrect humans from the ashes of bones? Is it logically that the previous and the latter generations will rise up and gather at one place? How can huge mountains fly like flakes of wool? So many questions. To address these questions Allah says that it will undoubtedly occur and they will soon see it. The Quran mentions;

كَلَّا سَيَعۡلَمُوۡنَۙ- ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَيَعۡلَمُوۡنَ

No indeed; soon will they come to know. Again, no indeed; soon will they come to know. (78:5-6)

The Signs Of Allah

In Surha Naba, Allah explains his bounties and blessings bestowed on his servants so they may acknowledge them and become thankful for them. In these verses God Almighty mentions the creation of earth, the huge mountains, day and night, the sun, the skies, and the rain. He also reminds the humans of their creation in pairs. Allah says;

And we created you in pairs (Quran 78:8)

The Happening of Qiyamah

The verse 18 of Surah Nabaa describes the happening of Qiyamah when the appointed time reaches. Quran says;

يَّوۡمَ يُنۡفَخُ فِى الصُّوۡرِ فَتَاۡتُوۡنَ اَفۡوَاجًا

“A day when the trumpet will be blown, so you will come in multitudes”(78:18 )

It is established that Hazrat Israel A.S. will blow the trumpet by the command of Allah and the Day of judgment will occur. On the first blow all the living things will fall to death and on the second blow all humans will resurrect and souls will be returned to their physical bodies. The subsequent verse explains the skies will be opened and all become doors. The mountains will change their shapes and be converted into tiny particles like the ocean of sand.

The Depiction Of Hell

The verse 21 of An Naba Surah (78 21) depicts the dreadful scenario of hell. The Quran says;

اِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ كَانَتۡ مِرۡصَادًا

Surely the Hell is an ambush(78:21)

Hell is described as an ambush, because it is prepared and watching for the rebellions of God and those who denied Allah’s messages. The verses of Juzz Amma Yatasa Alun highlights that there will be no coolness and pleasant drinks in hell. They will be served with boiling water and washes of wounds(puss). This is the reward of their deeds and the torment will only be increased.
