Reasons Behind Revealing Surat Muzammil:

Muzammil Surah-Origin

Muzammil surah is a Meccan surah because the majority of its Ayaat was revealed in Mecca and only a small portion was revealed in Madinah. During the period from 610AD-615AD Sura Muzamal was unfolded. At that time the opposition to our last Messenger (صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ) became vocal and powerful and He (صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ) had openly begun to propagate Islam.

Surah Al Muzammil Background

Surah Al Muzammil was revealed to the Holy Prophet Muhammad (صَلَّى ٱللَّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ) to prepare Him (صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ) for the heavy responsibility of spreading the message of Islam. Many difficulties are yet to come such as

• The victimization of your followers.
• The battles against non-Muslims.

Therefore, it is instructed in this surah:
Oh you wrapped in a shawl (Surah 73, Ruku 1, Para 29)

Here, Allah Almighty said to the Prophet Muhammad (صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ), “Why are you staying wrapped up in a shawl? Stand up! And pray at night because that is the only way to stand firm against the evil opposition”

قُمِ ٱلَّيۡلَ إِلَّا قَلِيلٗا نِّصۡفَهُۥٓ أَوِ ٱنقُصۡ مِنۡهُ قَلِيلًا

Arise [to pray] at night, except for a little – (Ayah:2, Surah:67). Half of it – or subtract from it a little (Ayah:3, Surah:67)

To handle this huge responsibility Allah asks the Prophet Muhammad (صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ) to pray at night with full concentration away from all the worldly distractions

If anyone is committing sins by following the path of Shaitan, his/her heart and soul will become impure. Reciting surah Muzammil complete after Isha prayer and in Tahajjud protects us from evil curses. This also helps us to search for Allah’s Mercy. As the Quran says:

Indeed, the night hours are more effective for concurrence [of heart and tongue] and more suitable for words.(Ayah 6, Chapter 73, para 29)
