“Ashrae Meaning” And “Ashra Duas”
Well, “Ashra” is an Arabic word “عَشْرَة”. Ashrae meaning is “ten(10)”. It shows that there are ten days in each ashra of Ramadan. There are three ashras of Ramadan in total which are divided into categories.
- 1st Ashra(Seeking Allah’s Mercy)
- 2nd Ashra(Seeking Forgiveness for sins from Allah)
- 3rd Ashra(Seeking for Salvation from Allah)
Ramadan Ashra Duas

“رَبِّ اغْفِرْ وَارْحَمْ وَأَنْتَ خَيْرُ الرَّاحِمِينَ”
“Oh My Lord, forgive me, have mercy on me, and you’re the most merciful”
This Ashra is also known as “Ashra of Allah’s Mercy” and this is the reason why Muslims recite this dua during the first 10 days of this sacred month. These days, the first ashrah dua is recited frequently to get the mercy and blessings of Allah Subhanahu’Wata’alaa. This dua is also termed as the “first 10 days of Ramadan dua”.

2nd Ashra Dua
The second 10 days of Ramadan or the days from 11th Ramadan-ul-Mubarak until 20th Ramadan are called the 2nd ashra of Ramadan. In the 2nd Ashra of Ramadan, Muslims recite 2nd ashra dua to seek forgiveness from Allah. This is narrated as;
اَسْتَغْفِرُ اللہَ رَبِّی مِنْ کُلِّ زَنْبٍ وَّ اَتُوْبُ اِلَیْہِ
“I seek forgiveness from Allah for all my sins and turn to Him”.
The 2nd Ashra of Ramadan is called “The Ashra of Forgiveness” and therefore, this beautiful dua is recited by the Muslims during the second ashra of ramadan.

اَللَّهُمَّ أَجِرْنِي مِنَ النَّارِ
“O Allah! Save me from the Hell – Fire.”

Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) also mentioned another Ramadan 3rd Ashra dua that is recited during the nights of Laylat-ul-Qad’dr to seek Allah’s forgiveness and blessings. This is also known as the “dua for Laylat-ul-Qad’dr
اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّكَرِيمٌ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي.
“Oh Allah, indeed You are Pardoning, [Generous,] You love pardon, so pardon me”!
Laylat-ul-Qad’dr And Its Importance In Islam:
This is the miraculous night and comes on odd days of the 3rd Ashra of Ramadan. It is also termed the “odd nights of Ramadan” and is very significant in Islam.
In the Quran, Allah Subhanahu’wata’aalaa says;
“We sent it (this Qur’an) down on a blessed night.”
[Surah Al-Dukhan 44:3]
The Prophet Muhammad(S.A.W) said;
“Seek Laylat al-Qad’dr in the last ten days of Ramadan.”
[Bukhari and Muslim]
