By giving the answer to someone’s greeting you are encouraging them to say it whenever they meet with you. Islam also advises its believers “response to assalamualaikum” . In this way, your acknowledgement of someone’s wishes will become a source of reviving this beautiful tradition.
2. Source for forgiveness
“Our Prophet (PBUH) said When two Muslims meet (give salaam) and shake hands, they are forgiven their sins before they part (with each other)”

4. Making new Bonds
Greetings and replying (assalam walekum) can instantly create a connection between the two people, it fills our life with positivity when we return greetings to someone, or they return greetings to us. In the time of hardships it reassures and calms our heart that we are not alone and our fellow is with us to pray for our ease.
Rasulullah (SAW) said: “You will not enter Paradise until you believe and you will not believe until you love one another. Shall I not tell you about something which, if you do it, you will love one another? Spread salaam (the greeting of peace) among you.” (Muslim)

Is it mandatory to reply to the salam in the video?
If someone has offered his greetings as salam in the live broadcast then it is obligatory to give a response. Can we reply to Salam in our heart without saying loudly?
It is best to respond to salam loudly so the one who is making salam can hear it. However, if that person can’t hear your response e.g: he is deaf, or at a distance then you can make some sign to tell him that you have responded to his Salam.
The main problem in answering in a low voice is that the purpose of salam is to spread this beautiful habit among the other people. This purpose will be lost if you will respond in an unhearable voice. Also, the person making salam will be discouraged and probably he will not greet you again.
